MASTER CHEMISTRY AND MATERIALS SCIENCES 1ST YEAR
The Foundation of Materials Science Knowledge
The first Year of the Master Chemistry and Materials Science is structured into one semester which is common to Multi-materials and Polymers and Applications specialties, and a second one dedicated to one of the specialties.
Multimaterials Specialty corresponds to M1 Chemistry and Materials Science of University Claude Bernard Lyon 1.
Recruitment
Candidates are expected to hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent (180 ECTS).

Diploma
The diploma of the first year of Master of Chemistry and Materials Science is delivered by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1. It corresponds to 4 years of academic training or 240 ECTS.

GOAL OF THE MASTER
The first year of Master of Chemistry and Materials Science aims at providing fundamental knowledge in:
- Elaboration of polymers, ceramics, metals, glasses and composite materials
- Characterization of materials by selecting the appropriate methods
Supporting students in understanding and predicting the relationships between chemical structure and properties according to the elaboration process.
Accompanying the students during the development of their professional project by providing the knowledge, the tools and methodology to successfully complete the internship.
ACQUIRED SKILLS
The M1 course gives a solid scientific education in materials science and enables further studies in the M2 courses of Chemistry and Materials Science Master of University Claude Bernard Lyon 1:
- Design of Life Cycle of Materials
- Advanced Materials and 2D/3D Processes
- Materials and Sustainable Development (MSD)
- Elaboration and characterization of organic (natural and synthetic origin), inorganic (glasses, cement, ceramics, metals) and composites materials
- Professional written and oral scientific communication
- Professional communication in English
SEQUENCE OF COURSES
The first year of Master of Chemistry and Materials Science master (60 ECTS) consist of a theoretical course (57 ECTS) between September and March and an industrial internship from April to August.
